Hurricane season started June 1st, and we're already on our third named storm! Living on Delmarva, we know how those storms can impact us- strong winds, torrential rain, storm surges, even tornadoes! Hurricane season doesn't even end until November 1st. We talked about hurricane preparedness on DelmarvaLife Monday, with State Farm Insurance Agent Megan Nabb, of Cambridge.
Megan says there are three steps families need to take ahead of a big storm: plan, prepare and protect. She says families should review their insurance policy to make sure they have the right amount and type of coverage. It's also a good idea to develop a disaster plan and put together a hurricane preparedness kit. Megan says your kit should include drinking water in non-breakable containers; non-perishable food and related utensils; a first-aid kit; a portable radio and flashlight, including replacement batteries; a tool kit; maps; cell phone with charger; extra clothing; blankets or sleeping bags; insurance policy numbers; and pet supplies, if necessary.
