We have many talented kids living here on Delmarva.
The winner of the 2017 Maryland Eastern Shore Regional Spelling Bee, Erin Welch of Princess Anne, joins us in the studio to tell us all about her recent win. Erin spelled 19 words correctly to win. The ‘championship’ word that Erin spelled correctly was solvency.
Erin has previously competed in three other regional spelling bees and was runner-up twice. Erin’s mother Sofie says that Erin was practicing 400 words an hour at one point. Sofie also says it brings her and her husband such joy to see the amount of confidence Erin has on the competition stage.
When Erin isn’t busy spelling, she plays piano, dances, plays field hockey, takes voice lessons, and volunteers.
Erin’s win qualifies her to participate in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C. in May. We wish Erin the best of luck!
Jimmy also takes Erin on in a spelling bee showdown!
