The Forte family from Water Mill, New York won the Name that Foal fundraising eBay auctions and decided to give the naming rights to her two young daughters as a Christmas present.
Adriana’s Yankee Prince was the named chosen for the pinto bay colt, who was born in 2016 (N2BHS-AO). The Colt’s name was chosen based off his paternal grandmother, Princess, for his father Yankee, the singer, and the Forte family’s fandom of the New York Yankee baseball team.
The second horse is a sorrel filly named Mieke’s Noe’lani (N2BHS-AIO). The name has Hawaiian origins and translates to Mieke’s beautiful girl from heaven.
This name was chosen to work in harmony with the mother of the filly, Chama Wingapo, who also has a name of Hawaiian decent.
Both horses roam year-round in the developed area around the island.
Anyone can log on to the AIA website to donate and be part of the Foster Horse Program to help manage and protect the horses.
AIA was created back in 2008 to support the Assateague Island National Seashore and provide interpretive, educational and scientific programs, while also maintaining restoration and preservation of land and water on the site.
