The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is preparing its annual program to offer state-approved basic boating safety courses in Maryland.
To operate a boat in Maryland waters, it is required for any persons born after July 1, 1972 to take these classes and receive a certificate in basic boating safety. The class is a series of three evening sessions that cover multiple nautical skills that will keep you, your passengers, and other water men safe.
Lt. Journo Grade Zach Hall said receiving this knowledge is vitally important to the image and prestige of Ocean City and its surrounding waterways being a safe and visitor-friendly resort.
Each year the USCGA teaches between 100 and 150 students in lessons of nautical safety and hope to expand its reach this year by offering two additional classes that will meet on Saturdays rather than the traditional Tuesday through Thursday night schedules.
