The Bowl for Kids’ Sake Campaign raises funds to support Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS) programs. The BBBS helps disadvantaged youth who are often living in single-parent households, growing up in poverty, or coping with parental incarceration or military deployment.
The Salisbury Bowl for Kids’ Sake bowling event is April 13 at Cherokee Lanes in Salisbury, Md. The theme is “Luau at the Lanes” and there will be a prize for the best dressed bowler in luau gear. There will also be raffles and prizes at the event.
WBOC Producer Lauren Lins is a Big Sister in the BBBS program. Her little sister’s name is Kamyra and they were matched at the end of summer 2015.
“We hit it off immediately. I remember our first outing was at the Salisbury Park and we just walked around and got to know each other a little better. Since then, we have done countless things, and it doesn’t matter if it is something as big as going to Baltimore to watch the Ravens or as little as her coming over after school to do homework and cook dinner – we just have a blast together. Joining the program and having Kamyra in my life has changed my life in a way that I cannot describe. She’s not just my little, she’s my sister. I might not know where my life is going to take me, but I know Kamyra will always be in my life.”
Lauren is on a team with a couple of co-workers from WBOC called “Spare Me.” Kamyra and some others are on the team and they are really excited about the event.
Lauren says, “I am excited. I love doing different things for BBBS, I love spending time with Kamyra. BBBS hosts a lot of different activities for Bigs and Littles, and I try to participate in as many as I can. We’ve done things from roller skating, to dinners and concerts to helping Habitat for Humanity. Tonight, I am ready to bowl.”
If you cannot make it to this event, the Ocean Bowl event takes place at Ocean Lanes Bowling Center on Sunday, April 17.
If you would like to create a team, you can register here. Event organizers ask that you raise $250 per team and the team members will receive bowling shoes, pizza, soda, and an event t-shirt.
If you are unable to participate, please consider making a tax-deductible donation to support local youth programming. Donations can be made here, or sent to the address at the bottom of the email.
