Do you love trees?
Dorothy McCormick, a student at McCarville Academy, won the Delaware Association of Conservation Annual poster contest, featuring the theme; We all need Trees. Dorothy won First place in her category, a student in 7-9th grade from Sussex County.
She received a gift card from her local Conservation District, as well as the opportunity to compete at the national level.
The Public Outreach Coordinator from the New Castle office, Rick Mickowski, came in with Dorothy to discuss the competitions standards and regulations.
Mickowski said that the competitions are judged based on each participants respective level of skill, ability to display creativity, and the general theme in their poster.
“We wouldn’t judge a kindergardener’s work compared to students in High School,” said Mickowski.
Dorothy was very excited to educate us about the functionality of trees in our environment. Her poster provided multiple visuals on why trees are so important.
“This whole contest is a great opportunity to look at nature and learn about the science behind it too,” said Dorothy.
