For only the second time in 42 years, the Iditarod Sled Dog Race has been moved to Fairbanks… because there’s not enough snow!
But if you’re really interested in a cool place – vote Chincoteague! You have until February 25th to vote for the home of the Pony Swim to be Budget Travel‘s Coolest Small Town in America! Chincoteague is running a very close second place! You can vote once every 24 hours, so vote early and vote often!
Wait – did we mention that Saturday is Valentine’s Day? How about Delaware Technical Community College‘s 3rd annual Chocolate Lovers 5k Run/Walk. Proceeds benefit the college’s international education program, including study abroad and the global understanding series.
But remember that while we bipeds enjoy flowers and candy for Valentine’s Day, they can be deadly for our four-legged friends. Be on the lookout for symptoms that will tell you that Fido or Felix has ingested something bad for their health. Treat your sweetheart right, but keep it out of reach!
While we’re talking dogs and cats and dinner and dancing (ok, we haven’t mentioned dinner and dancing yet, but we are now!), The Caroline County Humane Society is hosting it’s second annual “Hopeful Hearts” dinner and dance at the Denton Volunteer Fire Hall next weekend.
Saturday is Valentine’s Day and Monday is President’s Day, but this three-day weekend is also your chance to shop tax-free in Maryland for energy-efficient appliances, compact fluorescent and LED light bulbs.
And come Monday, you can expand your horizons with a glimpse at Chinese culture at the Avalon Theater in Easton. Shadow and
hand puppet performance from Shaanxi, China, paper cutters, 
fabric makers, Chinese dancers, language lessons and more for free between two and four.
