Golfing is a great american pastime that many might think is only a summer sport.
I recently got a chance to visit the Great Hope Golf Course to learn that is simply not the case. Located in Somerset county, the golf course is of the most highly ranked in the state. For someone who as only had one visit, their popularity comes to no surprise. As secluded as the venue is, the field had a way of opening right up once we got inside.
I got a chance to meet up with Somerset County Director of Recreation and Parks, Clint Sterling, who gave me the details about the course itself. He says the fall is a beautiful time to head out to the golf course because the weather is more mild than it is in the summer months. He also reiterated how Great Hope was different from your typical golf course because you don’t need a membership to book a game session.
I also got a chance to learn details about golf classes with with PGA Golf Professional Jack Skilling. He even gave me a few pointers on how to swing the club! Altogether, it was a great experience to visit a course with staff so open to having new guests in the community.
There is a golf tournament coming up where you can check out the course for yourself. The Donnie Price Memorial Golf Tournament is Friday, Oct. 20 from 8 am – 3 pm.
