According to
Peninsula Regional Medical Center, deep vein thrombosis, or DVT, is when a blood clot forms in a deep vein. The clot can form for several reasons, but a main reason why is immobility. It’s usually in the lower leg, thigh or pelvis, but can also occur in the arm or chest. DVT can cause serious illness, disability, and in some cases, death. Often times, DVT is treated with anticoagulants, or blood thinners. They prevent blood clots from growing, and prevent new clots from forming. It’s always best to speak with your doctor if you have any questions.
