Tuesday on DelmarvaLife, we talked about cholesterol management. Jennifer Eakin, DO, a cardiologist with Peninsula Regional Medical Center, discussed the difference between LDL cholesterol (the “bad” type) and the HDL cholesterol (the “good” type.) A simple blood test can determine your cholesterol levels. The following information from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services outlines what the numbers mean:

LDL CHOLESTEROL (BAD)

<100: Optimal

100-129: Near Optimal

130-159: Borderline High

160-189: High

190: Very High

HDL CHOLESTEROL (GOOD)

<40: Low

>60 High
