The Allen’s have been longtime supporters of Nanticoke, previously contributing to the expansion of the cardiac catheterization program a few years ago as well as the hospital’s capital campaign in 2016.
“Barbara and Chick continue to generously support Nanticoke, most recently by helping fund improvements to our cancer center. But, as they have shared with me many times, they personally believe that what sets Nanticoke apart from other providers is our oncologists, nurses and staff,” said Steven Rose, RN, MSN, president/CEO of Nanticoke Health Services.
“They have expressed a great deal of gratitude for the service, compassion and professional care this team has provided to them; the same care and compassion they provide to their patients every day.”
Each year, the Nanticoke Cancer Care Center provides nearly 10,000 cancer treatments, including nearly 5,000 infusion treatments. For 2017-2018, this number continues to grow.
“With the increasing need for comprehensive cancer treatment, we are pleased to be able to support this important project that will benefit the region,” said Barbara and Chick Allen.
Through this gift, the Allen Cancer Center at Nanticoke will establish a new pharmacy and lab specifically for cancer patients.
“Additionally, the cancer center will expand the number of infusion bays, including semi-private treatment areas, increasing the comfort of our patients. The infusion bays overlook the Nanticoke River where it is not unusual to see fish jumping, turtles sunbathing, and eagles fishing,” said Julie Abel, LPN, MHA, CTR, and director of Nanticoke Cancer Care Services. The project also includes updates to the façade, entrance and lobby areas, making the environment more relaxing for patients and their families and friends supporting them during care.
“The Allen’s have personally witnessed the impacts of cancer. They understand how important it is for these very vulnerable patients to get the best care possible in an environment that is comfortable, convenient, and soothing,” said Lynda Messick, chairperson of Nanticoke’s Board of Directors. “The Allen’s are deeply grateful for the compassion, kindness and support of the staff at Nanticoke. This gift, in part, is recognition of the great work done by our team while also providing an exceptional environment for care for those who need it most.”
