“People assume that just because they pay a water bill, that the drinking water is good,” said Hurd “That is simply not true, there are contaminants in the water that customers don’t like, such as hardness and chlorine.”
Some of the common signs that will tell you whether or not you have a water contamination problem would be staining in the colors of blue or green.
“Any staining, whether it’s blue or green, could be iron or clay stains,” said Hurd “If you have a bad smell, that is a sign of hydrogen sulfide.”
To find out if you have any of these issues, customers can hire a technician to come in and do a field test. This will include a PH test and an Iron test.
Hurd said that those who suspect they might have an issue, should have their home looked at immediately. If not fixed, it could cause severe damage to your home.
Iron and clay are destructive because they can do severe damage to hot water heaters. When you have acidic water it will eat anything metal that it comes in contact with.
There are a few options to help correct these problems such as:
“If you have a hardness issue, we put a softner sediment filter in,” said Hurd “If you have a PH problem we use sodium bicarbonate injections and chlorine injections for hydrogen sulfide problems.”
Hurd said that bacteria is another contaminant that customers should be aware of.
