The school year is upon us so we decided to bring some teachers to Historic Studio D to tell us about the importance of parent-teacher communication throughout the school year.
Somerset County’s Teacher of the Year, Sarah Perdue, and Wicomco County’s Teacher of the Year, Christen Tacka, join us on the couches.
Christen says teachers teach so much more than reading, writing, and arithmetic.
“We teach life skills, social skills. We teach students how to make friends, what to do if they are being bullied, and how to set personal goals for themselves,” Christen says.
The teachers also say they expect parents to get their students to bed on time and up for school on time. Christen also says open houses and back-to-school nights and other events throughout the year are important for parents to attend.
Sarah says it’s important to be involved with your child and their school whenever you can. Sarah says it’s important to have parent-teacher communication because it’s a team effort to raise and teach students.
