The National Institutes of Health says “Obesity means having too much body fat. It is different from being overweight, which means weighing too much.”
There ares so many terms professionals use to categorize those who have weight issues, from underweight to morbidly obese, so what makes a person qualify for each? If we are going to get technical, these variations of below normal to above average really depend on your BMI, (Body mass index) which is calculated using your height and your weight.
Centers for disease control:
- Under 18.5 BMI is underweight
- 18.5 – 24.9 BMI is normal/healthy
- 25 – 29.9 BMI is overweight
- 30 + BMI is obese
