We learned all about something called “voluntary acknowledgement of paternity,” or VAP. Miranda Tsyganov, Director of Community Services with Kent Sussex Community Services, and KSCS’ Paternity Outreach Specialist Lamont Pierce, joined Lisa and Jimmy on the couches to discuss the issue. Lamont says, “Voluntary Acknowledgement of Paternity is a free, simple and voluntary process for parents who are not married to one another to establish a legal relationship between fathers and their children.” Miranda says, “The VAP does not automatically give a father visitation or custody, but may be used to ask courts for those rights.”
