Arts in the community chairperson Jackie Bates, wanted to display children’s art, and making a place where people would come and expose it to the community.
“I think art is important to kids, because it allows them the creativity to express themselves, that they can’t do in the core classroom.” said Bates.
One of the winners Gretchen, created a digital art piece. She said that she was happy to win because the other art shows she has put artwork into, they either don’t receive any recognition, or they receive negative attention. She said their is a constant stigma that the computer does all of the work, but that is not the case.
“I really think this helps everyone in the arts understand that digital art is just as legitimate as anything else.” said Gretchen
The second artist Jessica created a traditional piece of artwork, a painting. The painting was of a motorcycle and the young artist said she used a shoelace to give the piece a better texture.
One of the other artist was Abigail who took a photo of a truck she found in Montana and the youngest competitor, Laura, who created a Delaware Blue Rooster, that was created out of clay.
Abigail said she chose the rooster because it is the Delaware State bird.
Keep an eye out because a lot of the local restaurants will display the artwork throughout the year.
