With the warmer weather here, a lot of us are trying to get out in the garden and get it all done in one day, or it’s time to play softball after being sedentary all winter. Whether you’re trying to be athletic, or just a weekend warrior, Dr. David Brown of Delmarva Chiropractic says the injuries you might suffer are pretty much the same.
Dr. Brown says, with these kinds of injuries, treatment may be targeted beyond the spine. ” We look at the biomechanical model,” said Dr. Brown. “Everything in the body is basically related and so the spine has a pronounced effect on the lower extremities.” In other words, if a patient has back pain, Dr. Brown wouldn’t necessarily start with the back.
The doctors at Delmarva Chiropractic use several different treatments, depending on the injury. The Graston Technique uses an instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization. Dr. Brown says it breaks down adhesions or restrictions that exist within fascial planes, a thick, tough, elastic type of connective tissue that wraps around our muscles.
“If you have ever cut up chicken before, you notice that white stuff that sort of surrounds muscle, well that’s fascia,” said Dr. Brown.
