The possibilities are endless when it comes to people living with a disability. Chimes International in Millsboro, Del. in Sussex County provides services to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Chimes was founded in Baltimore in 1947. In 1989, Marty Lamner joined the organization and in 1994, he helped bring it to Delaware.
Marty Lamner, President and CEO of Chimes International, tells us more about how services Chimes offers.
Chimes provides residential placements and support services such as a person going into a family home. In addition, there is an enrichment program where employment is not an active goal. This program helps them with socialization, interaction with others, and getting out into the community.
In the pre-vocational center, they receive and actual paycheck for their work, which gives them a sense of fulfillment. Work varies based on their abilities and the center helps them learn skills to get out and work in businesses in the community.
Marty says working at Chimes is such an uplifting experience.
