For our most recent “What’s Appening” segment, we’re talking about an online marketplace called Etsy.
We’re dissecting the Etsy app so you can make the decision on whether or not it’s a good fit for you. Our “What’s Appening” Expert and WBOC’s Director of Digital Media, Ethan Holland, and WBOC’s Interactive Marketing Coordinator, Lauren Hitch, join us on the couches to tell us more.
Etsy is a peer-to-peer e-commerce website focused on handmade items or unique factory-made items. Etsy offers unique, personalized products. Some Etsy sellers sell one thing, while others have an Etsy shop and sell multiple items.
Ethan expresses certain concerns that many may have about Etsy such as is it safe, how do you pay, and talking with “strangers” online about items.
Lauren has been ordering items from Etsy for a couple of years and helps us with our Etsy concerns.
Lauren is planning a wedding and shows off how Etsy has helped fulfill her rustic wedding dream.
“A lot of our wedding items, we purchased from Etsy. We have rustic banner attendant signs, empty shotgun shells to make boutineers, personalized signs, as well as gifts for our bridal party,” Lauren says.
Lauren explains how Etsy is easy to use. The product description, ratings, and reviews are very obvious and makes shopping simple.
“Much like Pinterest, you can “love” items by clicking the heart icon and it puts them in a group or you can make different wish lists and put certain items in those groups,” Lauren says.
Another neat thing about Etsy is that if you have a question for a seller, you can simply ask by clicking the “ask a question” button. That way before ordering the item you wish to have, you can make sure it is exactly what you want.
Lauren urges customers to really look into the reviews and ratings, as well as see where the item is shipping from, to assure the product will arrive on time and that it is a good quality item.
