February is American Heart Month. It’s a great time to commit to a healthy lifestyle and make small changes that can lead to a lifetime of heart health. Jeanne Ruff, executive director at Guerrieri Heart and Vascular Institute, joins us on the couches to talk about how to keep your heart healthy. This Friday, Feb. 3, a lot of women will be wearing red for women’s heart disease awareness. The Tri-County Go Red 2017 event is Thurs., Feb. 9 from 5pm-8pm at Worcester Technical High School. Participants will be able to visit vendor tables, participate in screenings, enjoy a provided dinner, listen to two keynote speakers, and engage in several other fun activities throughout the evening.
A Somerset County mother and her two children were viciously attacked int heir Princess Anne home in Dec. 2016. Princess Anne Police say after Airealle Sells was stabbed by her boyfriend, he attacked her two children. Sells died a few days later and the children were left fighting for their lives. The children are still receiving care at Johns Hopkins. Aiden is 4-years-old and is paralyzed on his left side and Naomi is 8-years-old and is recovering from a second brain surgery and is in rehab. When the children are released, they will live with their grandmother, but her home will need to be retrofitted to be handicap accessible as well as to meet the needs of the children. That’s where Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County comes in. Molly Hilligoss, executive director at Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County joins us in the studio today to tell us about their project to help the family, “Hope for a Homecoming.” To donate:

High School prom can be expensive and one local organization is looking to ease the financial burden of prom night. Betsy DeBord, Founder of PROMISE is in the studio with Sean to give the details about this great initiative. Girls have to be eligible to attend the event such as having financial needs or circumstantial needs. They can get vouchers from their guidance counselors at their schools for the event. The PROMISE Prom Gown Giveaway Day is Feb. 4 at Unitarian Universalist Church in Salisbury, Md. from 10am-3pm. The girls get the dresses for free and get to keep the dresses.
Some law enforcement agencies across the country are now being forced to lower their recruitment standards. WBOC’s Todd Karli recently reached out to some agencies here on Delmarva to find out more. Todd tells us about his findings today and tells us if we will see any changes here on Delmarva.
