Today on DelmarvaLife –
Everyone knows to welcome news students in class, but what about welcoming new teachers? There’s a project on Delmarva that’s doing just that by giving them what they need to be successful. For the first time, Worcester Youth and Family Counseling Services, in partnership with the Greater Ocean City, Ocean Pines, Berlin and Snow Hill Chambers of Commerce are asking for donations to fill bags for the new teachers of Worcester County. Those interested in donating should deliver items to the WYFCS offices no later than August 15. The offices are located at 124 North Main Street, Suite C, in Berlin, MD 21811. They are also requesting volunteers for the “bag stuffing” event on August 16 at 12 p.m. in the Ray (located within WYFCS offices.) Lunch will be provided.
We only have less than a week left of the month of July, and we can’t let the month end without mentioning that it is Parks and Recreation Month. It’s celebrated nationally, but taken especially seriously in Ocean City. The goal there is to help people “Discover an Ocean of Fun.” Between different camps, community events, and gorgeous grounds, the OC Recreation and Parks Department is working to provide a little something for everybody. We sent DelmarvaLife’s Katie Zarrilli to find out more.
Coastal Hospice is holding another Kicks 4 Kids. It is a family fun day with games, contests, food, prizes and FUN! There will be live music, a watermelon eating contest, smelly sneaker contest, prizes and more. The event benefits the Coastal Kids Supportive Care Pediatric Program of Coastal Hospice. Events Coordinator Amy Wigglesworth joins us to tell us more about this family fun event that happens on Saturday, August 10th from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Winterplace Park in Salisbury.
The Delaware State Fair is in full swing and, this year, it’s extra special because it’s the 100th anniversary of the fair. 102.5 WBOC’s Corey Phoebus hit the fairgrounds in Harrington to look into the fun to be had this year.
The Somerset County Dog Club will be holding i’s very first dog show at the Somerset County Fair. Members of the Somerset 4-H Club have been preparing for the event and will be putting their skills to the test on Friday, July 26th. We learn more about this effort.
Who can dock their boat the quickest? That questions will be answered this weekend in Eden as the Wicomico Yacht Club puts on its fourth annual Boat Docking Contest. WBOC is a proud sponsor of this event that has grown each and every year. DelmarvaLife’s Katie Zarrilli spoke with Commodore Tom Jones about what folks can expect on Sunday.
