Virtual reality, or VR, is about more than just gaming these days. From treating post traumatic stress disorder to allowing doctors to practice surgeries on virtual patients. Homestead Manor Assisted Living in Denton is using VR to keep their residents’ minds stimulated and they’re getting amazing results. DelmarvaLife’s Maxine Bentzel stops by Homestead Manor to learn more.
Sesame Street recently announced a new character, Julia, who has autism. The goal is to help kids understand that other kids who might have autism are more alike than them, than different. The message Sesame Street is trying to get across is vital especially when you consider that one in 68 children falls on the autism spectrum. Autism Delaware Development Director, David Woods, joins us in the studio to talk about the different levels of autism and about an upcoming autism walk. Walk for Autism is Sat., April 1 at Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes. Registration is at 9 am and the walk begins at 11 am. Maryland Secretary of Public Safety and Correctional Services, Stephen Moyer, joins us in Historic Studio D today to talk about job opportunities and their hiring campaign. To be qualified, you must have a high school diploma or GED, pass a background test and a polygraph. They have positions open for correctional officers, clinical psychologists, certified dietitians and information technology professionals. Secretary Moyer says there is always room for advancement in this line of work. The 2017 Career Expo, Department Public Safety & Correctional Services, is Sat., April 1 from 10 am-3 pm at Salisbury Art Space.
