What’s Happening Today – May 5, 2017
Today on DelmarvaLife:
It’s May 5th, or Cinco de Mayo! Here’s a few interesting facts about Cinco de Mayo:
- May 5th is not Mexico’s Independence Day
- The holiday isn’t all that popular in Mexico
- Americans eat 81 lbs. of avocado on Cinco de Mayo
The DelmarvaLife audience included many veterans today. We hear some of their courageous stories and learn about an upcoming event to honor service members. Choral and Music Director of Anthem of the Brave, Alice Wigfield, and President of Power Production Ministries, Shawn Smith, join us in Historic Studio D to tell us about the Anthem of the Brave event to honor veterans. Anthem of the Brave is a multimedia play interacting with a large community-based choir and orchestra. The event is May 19-21 at Delmarva Christian Community Center. Performance times are May 19 & 20 at 7 pm and May 21 at 2:30 pm. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. This opportunity not only will provide a benefit to The Fisher House, a veteran’s charity, but also raise awareness for and honor our veterans. Purchase tickets for this event here.
Randy Lee Ashcraft spends a lot of time organizing events to support our military. Him and his wife have been on our show previously to talk about their involvement with the Fisher House. Randy and part of the Saltwater Cowboys band performs “God Bless the USA.” Later in the show, Randy and the Saltwater Cowboys perform one of their originals, “Tame My Heart.”
The 27th Annual Ocean City Springfest is in full swing! Jimmy caught up with Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan to get the inside scoop on all the family fun. Check out everything going on this weekend at Springfest here.
We’re playing Picture This with a couple members of our studio audience today. The way the game works is Lisa will pull subjects out of a hat and Tommy and Randy from the audience will draw them. But here’s the catch – they will be blindfolded and only have fifteen seconds to draw. We’re having a lot of fun on the show today! Be sure to tune in at 5 pm!
